The state has 35 seats in the Legislative Council under the quota of local bodies.
In this, 2 representatives are elected from Etah, Mathura-Mainpuri seat, so 36 members are selected for 35 seats.
Usually these elections are held before or after the assembly session. This time due to the end of the term on 7 March, the Election Commission announced it in the middle of the assembly session.
Later, in view of the UP assembly elections, the council elections were postponed.
According to sources, BJP has decided on the names of MLCs for the local body elections. Only a few MLCs of the Samajwadi Party will be given tickets, while the majority of seats will go to the party cadre.
The BJP is likely to bring turncoats on only 10 seats.
On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party is reportedly giving priority to the new ones rather than the old faces.
Sources said the non-performing sitting MLCs may be ousted by the Samajwadi Party and promising MLA candidates who lose by a small margin may get tickets for the MLC elections. At present, the party does not want to take any risk.
