Islamabad: US President Joe Biden has written a letter to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assuring continued cooperation and highlighted that relations between the two countries are important in view of bilateral cooperation, regional peace and security. ‘The Express Tribune’ said in its news on Friday that by writing the first official letter with a Pakistani Prime Minister in the last several years, President Biden broke the tradition of not talking to the Prime Minister of Pakistan during his tenure.
Had not written letter to Imran Khan and Shahbaz earlier
It said Biden never spoke to former prime minister Imran Khan nor Sharif when he succeeds him in April 2022. The development comes weeks after Sharif took oath as the country’s prime minister for the second time. His rival and former Prime Minister Imran Khan had termed the general elections as “rigged”.
America gave this assurance to Pakistan
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party founder Imran Khan had openly accused the US of conspiring to topple his government after he was removed through a no-confidence motion in April 2022. “The enduring partnership between our nations is vital to ensuring the security of our people and those around the world, and the United States is committed to addressing the most pressing global and regional challenges of our time,” the letter shared by the US Embassy here said. Will stand with Pakistan.
Shahbaz Sharif becomes the new Prime Minister
Let us tell you that Pakistan had recently held general elections. After which Shahbaz Sharif became the new Prime Minister while Asif Ali Zardari became the new President of Pakistan.
