New York . US President Joe Biden will discuss the issue of Russian invasion of Ukraine with Prime Minister August 2, 2021
Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This discussion will be held in a virtual summit just before the 2+2 meeting of diplomatic and defense leaders of both the countries. The White House announced this on Sunday.
While relations between the two largest democracies are growing at an unprecedented pace, the US is opposed to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and India is trying to remain neutral.
America is trying to persuade India to take a tough stand against Russia.
Biden spokeswoman Jen Psaki said: “President Biden will continue our close consultations on mitigating the consequences of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine and its destabilizing impact on global food supply and commodity markets.”
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will hold 2+2 ministerial talks on Monday with Foreign Minister Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to discuss bilateral and global issues.
Saki said that further deepening of ties between our governments, economies and our people will be on the agenda of the summit.
He indicated that the Indo-Pacific would figure prominently in their talks.
“We will discuss maintaining a free, open, rules-based international order to promote security, democracy and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific,” he said.
“They will take forward the ongoing dialogue about the development of the Indo-Pacific economic infrastructure and the development of high-quality infrastructure,” he said.
He said that they will also discuss cooperation on many issues including ending the COVID-19 pandemic, combating the climate crisis, strengthening the global economy.
“President Biden believes that our partnership with India is one of the most important we have in the world,” he told his briefing in Washington on Friday.
The Pentagon announced that Singh and Austin would meet Monday morning ahead of the 2Plus 2 meeting.
Defense Department spokesman John Kirby said the four leaders will discuss defence, science, technology, cooperation, climate, public health and people-to-people relationships in the 2+2 meeting.
Earlier on Sunday, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that he would leave from New Delhi on Sunday night to visit the US from April 10 to April 15.
“I look forward to participating in the 4th India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in Washington DC. Also, I will be visiting the Indopacom headquarters in Hawaii during this visit,” he said.
Singh further said that his visit to the US would give him an opportunity to interact with his counterparts to deepen the India-US strategic partnership.
He had said that he was looking forward to a fruitful conversation during the visit.
