United Nations: Russia and China have defied the US proposal for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. China and Russia united against the proposal brought by America to stop the massacre in Gaza. Putin and Xi Jinping vetoed the US proposal. This got it rejected. The resolution called for an immediate end to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza to protect civilians and provide humanitarian aid to the more than 2 million Palestinians facing starvation.
During the voting in the fifteen-member Security Council, 11 members voted in favor and three against it and one member remained absent. Before the vote, Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said Russia supported an immediate ceasefire, but he questioned the language of the resolution. He accused US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield of “misleading the international community” for “political” reasons. Earlier, US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said she expected a new draft resolution to be approved by the 15-member council on Friday.
China and Russia gave a shock to America in October also
The Security Council had already adopted two resolutions on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, but neither called for a ceasefire. Russia and China also vetoed a US-sponsored resolution in late October that called for aid and protection of civilians and a halt to arms supplies to Hamas. Palestinian terrorists attacked southern Israel on October 7, killing about 1,200 people and abducting 250. The health ministry in Gaza put the death toll in the area at around 32,000. (AP)
