If someone does this then it is possible under Section 171 D of the Indian Penal Code with one year in jail or fine and both. It is illegal to cast or attempt to cast someone else’s ballot. Upon receiving the complaint, immediate legal action is taken.
How many people are eligible to vote this time?
The Election Commission of India has informed that about 97 crore Indians will be eligible to vote in this Lok Sabha election. The Election Commission has reported that 96.88 crore people in India are registered to vote for the upcoming general elections, which is the largest voter pool in the world. According to the Commission, the number of registered voters has increased by six percent since the last Lok Sabha elections 2019.
