Dehradun. Due to increased heat in the atmosphere due to forest fires in many areas of Uttarakhand, the risk of snow melting and avalanches has increased. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in the hill districts from 9th to 12th, anticipating that the temperature will be much higher than normal. Due to rising mercury, crops and vegetables can also suffer heavy losses. An advisory has also been issued by the department. Senior Meteorological Department’s senior meteorologist Bikram Singh said that on April 9, 10, 11 and 12, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Almora, Bageshwar, Nainital and Champawat are expected to have very high temperatures. During this, incidents of forest fire may also increase at some places in these districts. The effect of heat will also be seen on crops and vegetables.
In Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts, high Himalayan regions (above 3500 m) are prone to avalanches due to melting snow. The department has instructed the farmers to irrigate regularly to avoid scorching the crop due to scorching sun.
