new Delhi. Army’s Vice Lt Gen Manoj Pandey is set to become the current Chief of Army Staff. General MM Naravane is seen as the front-runner for the post of Chief of Defense Staff and is set to retire by the end of this month. Lt Gen Pandey will take over as he is the senior most in the force after General Naravane.
General Naravane is the front-runner for the post of Chief of Defense Staff after General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash in December last year.
General Rawat, his wife Madhulika and 12 jawans were killed in a helicopter crash on December 8, 2021.
Lt Gen Pandey is the senior-most after some top officers have retired in the last three months. The current Lt Gen Raj Shukla, who heads the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), retired on March 31.
Some other senior-most leaders had retired by the end of January. Lieutenant General C.P. Mohanty and Lt Gen Y.K. Joshi retired on January 31.
