Hackers target Ukraine’s parliament
On Wednesday, there was a cyber attack on Ukraine’s parliament and other government and banking websites. After this attack, cyber security researchers have said that unknown attackers have also infected hundreds of computers with dangerous malware. The researchers said some of the infected computers were in neighboring Latvia and Lithuania.
On Thursday morning in Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry and Council and Ministers sites were not opening, while other sites were quite slow, although there is no official confirmation about this cyber attack yet.
ESET Research Labs has confirmed the attack. The lab said on Wednesday it detected data-wiping malware on a computer in Ukraine. The lab claims that many large organizations of Ukraine have also been targeted in this attack.
Symantec Threat Intelligence detected three organizations affected by the Viper malware, including Ukrainian government contractors in Latvia and Lithuania, and a financial institution in Ukraine. Let us tell you that both these countries are members of NATO.
