Jaipur. German Ambassador to India Walter J Liner told -AnyTV News that his country did not pressure India or any other country to take sides in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
The German envoy said that all countries have the right to decide their stand and Germany has never criticized India’s stand on the Ukraine issue.
He said that no country has the right to attack another country with a large army, impose its will on it and cause death and destruction. The whole world should not be expected to take it easy.
In a conversation on the sidelines of the Jaipur Literature Festival, the ambassador said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has fabricated a false anecdote and on the basis of that he has attacked Ukraine. There was never a case of Ukraine taking membership of NATO. Anyway, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, many European countries voluntarily wanted to be part of the European Commission and NATO. It is not that NATO is forcing them to do so. Putin cannot distort history as he pleases, nor can he expect him to attack a sovereign nation at this point in time with no consequences. Moreover, attacking another country is not the way to resolve the border dispute.
The ambassador said that the strict sanctions imposed on Russia will prove to be effective. Germany is Europe’s powerhouse and Russia’s biggest consumer of energy exports, which is why its inclusion in the sanctions has made the impact of the sanctions even more deadly.
“It was only when Putin invaded Crimea that we reduced our dependence on Russian oil and gas,” he said. Now Nord Stream 2 has also been stopped and by the end of this year imports from Russia will drop further.
He said that Germany is focusing on meeting its needs with alternative sources of energy and renewable energy.
