New Delhi. The hearing was held in the bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Sandeep Mehta regarding the case of fire in the forests of Uttarakhand. Expressing concern over the increasing incidents of fire, the petitioner’s lawyer appealed to the government to issue an order to curb them immediately. He said that he had filed a petition in NGT two years ago regarding such incidents. Till now the government has not taken any action on it. That’s why I had to come here. The person who filed the petition said that forest fires are a problem all over India. Uttarakhand is suffering more from this.
The petitioner alleged that it should also be investigated that when a fire breaks out in a forest and the land use is changed after the fire is extinguished. The next hearing of this case will be next Thursday, May 16. The Uttarakhand government on Wednesday informed the Supreme Court about the steps taken to control the massive forest fire in the state. The state government said that only 0.1 percent wildlife area of the state has been affected due to the fire incident. The state government told a bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta that since November last year, there have been 398 incidents of forest fires in the state and all of them were caused by humans.
