Kathmandu: The relationship between Nepal and India is said to be that of bread and daughter. Till now there has been unhindered movement between the two countries. But now both the countries have become serious about border security. In such a situation, the report prepared jointly by the Group of Eminent Persons (EPG) of both the parties should be implemented. A senior leader of the ruling party gave this information on Wednesday. “Since the EPG report emphasizes the need to regulate the open border between Nepal and India, it has become necessary to implement it,” said Pampha Bhusal, vice chairperson of the ruling CPN-Maoist Centre.
Addressing an event titled ‘Sovereignty, Border and Water’ in Lalitpur district, the former water resources minister said it is necessary for Nepal and India to receive the report as it has been prepared by senior experts from both sides. The report was prepared in 2018 by a committee of eight members from Nepal and India with diverse backgrounds, with the aim of reviewing various aspects of bilateral relations, including the Nepal-India Friendship Treaty of 1950.
Concrete steps can now be taken between Nepal-India friendship
Bhusal said that if the Indian government does not show any interest in obtaining the report, then the Nepal government should take the initiative in this direction. If both countries do not accept the report then the suggestions given in the EPG report will not be implemented. He said that Nepal should take advantage of this by producing more and more electricity. He said that if water resources are used properly, Nepal can become prosperous. (Language)
