The book was brought to France by Victor Colin de Plancy, who became the first French diplomat in Korea in 1887. The BnF said that as a collector of ancient texts, he had bought it from an unknown source. He later learned that the book was from the Xuanguang era (1371–1378). According to France’s National Bureau of Statistics, it was shown at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1900 and sold at auction by Colin de Plancy in 1911 for 180 francs, which is worth more than 60,000 euros today.
