Former Indian cricketer and IPL team Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra has said that getting Rishabh Pant to bat at number four has affected his game. He can bat better if he is asked to bat later. According to Nehra, Pant likes to bat in a quick manner and he can prove to be more useful in the last overs. In the second match of the T20 series against West Indies, Pant was sent to bat at number five and scored a fine half-century.
In the second T20 match against West Indies, Pant scored 52 runs in 28 balls, batting at number five. He, along with Venkatesh Iyer, added 76 runs in the last six overs. Due to the excellent innings of these two batsmen, India was able to make a good score.
The less balls Pant plays, the better
Nehra in a conversation with Cricbuzz said that the fewer balls Pant plays, the better he will be able to show his natural game. According to him, India have better options in Suryakumar, who can play at number four in the middle order and score runs easily against the spin bowlers. Nehra further said that there is no need to tell how fast Pant can score runs in the last overs, but he does not have the art of weaving the innings yet. With time they will learn it.
In the ODI series against West Indies, Rohit Sharma had also started the innings with Pant, but here too he could not do anything special. Pant has been rested by the BCCI for 10 days from the bio bubble. Now he will join the Indian team before the Test series against Sri Lanka. Apart from him, Virat Kohli has also been discharged from Team India.
