New Delhi. A storm is about to hit the Bay of Bengal. Cyclone Remal (Cyclone Remal Latest News) may hit the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh this Sunday. This important information has been given by the Meteorological Department. This is the first storm in the Bay of Bengal before the monsoon arrives. This storm has been named Remal. Monica Sharma, a scientist at the India Meteorological Department, said, “It will be concentrated in a pressure area over the central Bay of Bengal by Friday morning. It will turn into a cyclonic storm on Saturday morning and will gain momentum. After this, by Sunday evening it will reach Bangladesh and the adjacent West Bengal coast as a severe cyclonic storm.
According to the IMD, the cyclone can cause winds of up to 102 kmph on Sunday. The weather office has warned of very heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of West Bengal, North Odisha, Mizoram, Tripura and South Manipur on May 26-27. Fishermen who have gone fishing in the sea have been advised to return to the coast and not go to the Bay of Bengal till May 27. Scientists say that due to warm sea surface temperatures, cyclones are gaining speed rapidly and retaining their power for a long time, resulting in the oceans absorbing most of the excess heat from greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the Meteorological Department, the sea surface temperature has been recorded as the highest in the last 30 years. According to IMD senior scientist DS Pai, warm sea surface temperature means more moisture, which is conducive to the intensification of cyclones. Former Secretary of the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences Madhavan Rajeevan said that for a low pressure system to turn into a cyclone, the sea surface temperature must be 27 degrees Celsius and above. He said that the surface temperature in the Bay of Bengal is currently 30 degrees Celsius.

“The Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea are very warm right now, so a tropical cyclone can easily form,” Rajeevan said. But tropical cyclones are not only controlled by the ocean, the atmosphere also plays an important role in it, he said. “If the vertical wind shear is very large, the cyclone will not intensify. It will weaken,” Rajeevan said. The senior meteorologist said models suggest that the cyclone will not affect the progress of the monsoon.
However, Pai said that this may affect the progress of monsoon in some parts. He told PTI that initially this system will help the monsoon to advance over the Bay of Bengal. After this, it will get separated from the monsoon circulation and draw a lot of moisture, which may result in a slight delay in its progress over that region.
