The World Health Organization has expressed concern about the increasing cases of coronavirus infection in the world. The organization has advised countries to be vigilant against the virus. At the same time, it is feared that this could be the beginning of big trouble. In some countries, including South Korea and China, the number of infections continues to rise. Apart from this, experts believe that the situation may worsen in many countries including America.
Give reasons, expressed concern
The WHO said that after decreasing for a month, the figures have started increasing again last week. The organization explained that this includes various reasons such as the Omicron variant, the BA.2 sub-variant and the relaxation of social measures. Leading Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, ‘In some countries, they are increasing despite the reduction in testing, which means that the cases we are seeing are just the beginning.’
WHO officials are also considering the reduced vaccination rate due to misinformation in some countries as the reason for the increasing cases. During the briefing the organization’s Maria Wayne Kerkhove said that BA.2 appears to be the fastest spreading variant ever. However, so far there is no indication that it can cause serious diseases. At the moment, there is no evidence that the cases are increasing due to the new variants.
such a deteriorating situation
Compared to the previous week, the number of new infections worldwide increased by 8 percent. Between 7-13 March, there were 1.1 crore new patients and a little more than 43 thousand deaths. This increase was seen for the first time since January. During this, the number of infections increased the most in the WHO’s Western Pacific region. These include South Korea and China. Where cases increased to 25 percent and deaths to 27 percent. In Africa too, new cases increased by 12 percent and deaths increased by 14 percent. New cases in Europe increased by 2 percent, but deaths did not increase.
Since the beginning of March, cases have been increasing in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the UK. Many experts have expressed concern that Europe is facing another wave of corona virus. However, the situation is not bad across Europe. For example in Denmark in February due to BA.2 cases increased for some time, but decreased in talk. Experts are also concerned about the fact that like Europe, there could potentially be a wave in the US due to BA.2.
“I agree with the easing of restrictions, because after two years you can’t consider it an emergency,” said Antonella Viola, professor of immunology at the University of Padua in Italy. He said, ‘We should avoid thinking that COVID is no more.’ At the same time, he also advised maintaining strict measures, including monitoring and tracking of cases and wearing of masks in closed or crowded places.
