New Delhi. Former Indian Ambassador to America Taranjit Singh Sandhu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday. There is a possibility that BJP may field him in the Lok Sabha elections from Amritsar, Punjab. He joined the party in the presence of BJP general secretaries Vinod Tawde and Tarun Chugh. With his joining BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress may face challenge on this seat. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party are contesting elections separately in Punjab.
Joining the BJP, Sandhu talked about the progress of India-US relations and said that special attention has been given to development in many sectors like the semiconductor industry. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda for their political innings, he said that this development should also reach his hometown Amritsar.

Become the first ambassador after the formation of Ukraine
1988 batch IFS officer Taranjit Singh Sandhu had completed his tenure as India’s Ambassador to America in the month of January this year, after which he retired. Sandhu was appointed to America by the Modi government in February 2020. Apart from this, he has also served in many other countries. Taranjit Singh Sandhu had worked there during the Soviet Union era. In his career spanning more than thirty years, he has also worked in Ukraine. He was the first ambassador of the new country Ukraine after its separation from Russia.
