Mau: The first case was theft of two thousand bricks, the second was land grabbing, both these cases seem small, but they gave sleepless nights to gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari. Both these cases happened with Harishchandra Vishwakarma, who retired from Railways in 2003. He fought the case in both the cases for more than a decade and did not give up. It is known that gangster-bahubali Ansari died of a heart attack at the age of 63 late on Thursday night.
Former railway employee Harishchandra Vishwakarma filed a case of land grabbing against muscleman Mukhtar Ansari in 2003. This was the first case of land grabbing registered against Ansari. When asked about the gangster’s death, 82-year-old Vishwakarma, who lives in Mau, told NDTV philosophically, ‘We all have to die one day, this is the story of both you and me.’
From 2005 till his death, Mukhtar Ansari was lodged in different jails of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Mr Vishwakarma, 82, who lives in Mau, told NDTV, ‘There was a land in front of my house, it was allegedly captured by Mukhtar Ansari’s people. I built a school there and Mukhtar Ansari was called to inaugurate it.

Vishwakarma said, ‘To build the road leading to the school, his (Mukhtar Ansari) people stole 2,000 bricks, which I had bought to build my house.’ When Mukhtar Ansari, who was a resident of Mau, came to inaugurate the school, he was weighed with coins.
The retired railway employee told that the land belongs to the state government. I immediately registered a case against Mukhtar Ansari and his people. Asked how he managed the money, Mr Vishwakarma said he used his pension to fight the case. Vishwakarma says that Mukhtar Ansari’s people also attacked his elder brother because he refused to withdraw the case.
Vishwakarma won after fighting the case against the mafia for years. Over the years the school was closed and the Mau Municipality took over the property. He said the stolen bricks were never found. At the same time, he lost his wife in the year 2018.
The gangster has won the Mau Assembly seat five consecutive times since 1996, twice as a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate. He last contested the assembly elections in 2017.
