New Delhi. Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair, who runs a fact-checking website, seems to be in trouble. On Monday evening, Delhi Police arrested Zubair for allegedly promoting enmity and hurting religious sentiments with an objectionable tweet from 2018. A case was registered against Zubair under section 153/295A of IPC. Zubair was produced before a duty magistrate late on Monday night. From where he was sent to police custody for a day. Later, Delhi’s Patiala House court extended Zubair’s police custody to four days. The court said that the police have to recover the accused’s phone and laptop from his Bengaluru home.
Now in this case a new twist is being seen regarding the Rs 50 lakh that came in Zubair’s bank account. Delhi Police has received information about Rs 50 lakh coming in Zubair’s bank account in a few months. However, no information has been revealed about where this amount was sent from and by whom. On Tuesday, Delhi Police said that they have evidence that Alt News co-founder Mohd. An amount of Rs 50 lakh has arrived in Zubair’s bank account. In such a situation, now the police is investigating the source of the money received.
Prateek Sinha dismissed the report
Alt News co-founder Prateek Sinha has rubbished the police’s claims of Rs 50 lakh coming into Zubair’s account in the last three months. Sinha shared the news article on Twitter and said, “Fact-check: Absolutely false. The police is linking the donation received by Alt News to Zubair. All the money that Alt News receives goes to the bank account of the organization and not to any individual. The bank statement of Zubair’s personal account, a copy of which is with me, refutes this falsehood.”

On this matter, Zubair’s lawyer Vrinda Grover has told the court that his client (Zubair) has been arrested for the picture posted in the year 2018. She is taken from the 1983 film ‘Kisi Se Na Kehna’. Apart from this, he said that contrary to the allegation, Zubair has not tampered with the picture in any way. Well now it has to be seen where this matter ends now.
