New Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal told the Delhi High Court that his arrest was made on the basis of the statements of Jaichand, who had become a government witness. Highlighting this before the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that his arrest in a money laundering case related to the Delhi Excise Duty Policy case was based on the statements of the accused persons who later turned government witnesses. Whereas there was no other evidence against him. Kejriwal’s lawyer senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi compared such government witnesses to the medieval king ‘Jaichand’. Who are said to have betrayed the Indian rulers by allying with foreign invaders.
According to a report in ‘Bar & Bench’, Singhvi said, ‘Such people are called government witnesses… In our history, whether for good purposes or for bad purposes, courts have dealt with idioms like Jaichand and Trojan Horse. History looks very harshly at these Jaichands and Trojan Horses. He has betrayed. He said that ‘the government witness is the most unreliable friend. Elaborating on this comment, Singhvi said that Kejriwal was arrested on the basis of the statements of people who were earlier arrested in the case and were later granted bail after turning government witnesses.
every case is the same
Senior lawyer Singhvi alleged that ‘record the statement of the accused. There is nothing against me in that step. The next step is to arrest that person. He suffers in jail and then has to apply for bail. As for the next step, the ASG told the court that ED has no opposition to the bail. The reason given is that the arrested person has back pain. The next step is that he comes out and gives a statement against me. After this he becomes a government witness. This has happened in every case regarding liquor policy. This destruction of constitutional safeguards is shocking.
If this happens then 10 lawyers will come for ED too… Why did ASG Raju get angry on Kejriwal’s petition and in the court room?
No confirmation of any statement
Singhvi said that there has been no confirmation of any such statement. In this regard, Singhvi also threw light on the statements of two people, Raghav Magunta’s father and Sarath Chandra Reddy. Regarding Raghav Magunta, Singhvi said that ‘he is tortured. The father gives a statement and the son gets bail. What do such statements mean?’ Regarding Sarath Chandra Reddy he said, ‘There are two statements which are not against me. Now the statement has come after the arrest. He is not against me in these nine statements. These nine statements are not in the six complaints of the prosecution. After eighteen months he again gives a statement against me. Then nine days after his statement against me, he gets bail on medical grounds and after twenty days he is pardoned.
