Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced that he would return to the Assembly only after coming to power. Chandrababu Naidu has taken this decision after allegedly insulting his wife Nara Bhuvaneshwari by the ruling party inside the assembly. Now the question is whether Naidu will be able to fulfill his promise by returning to power in Andhra Pradesh again? After all, what were the reasons due to which he had to see such a bad defeat in the assembly elections of Andhra Pradesh?
Decision to go with BJP was heavy
Chandrababu Naidu was very late in the decision to break the alliance with the BJP. The public expected him that after the partition of the state, Naidu would solve the problems in the state. For this, Naidu requested the central government to give special status to Andhra Pradesh. The same promise was also made by PM Modi in the year 2014, but BJP did not take it seriously. Knowing this, Naidu remained in alliance with the BJP in the state till the year 2018, due to which the general public started disillusioning with both the parties.
Less worry about the state, more worry about defeating BJP
After breaking the alliance with NDA, Naidu started dharna on other issues except the issue of special category status to Andhra Pradesh. It didn’t take long for Naidu to turn the fight with the Center into BJP versus Andhra Pradesh. Withdrawing the state’s consensus from the CBI, sometimes raising the issue of tampering with the opposition over the EVM machine in elections, kept Naidu shifting the focus. This convinced the general public that this fight is not of their state, but of TDP and BJP. In the Lok Sabha elections too, Naidu’s strategy was to defeat the BJP instead of Andhra Pradesh. It was the TDP which initiated the no-confidence motion against the central government in 2018. The meeting of the opposition was called in December 2018 on the initiative of Naidu. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the strategy to defeat the BJP in the year 2019.
close to congress
The way Chandrababu Naidu did for 2019 grand alliance The whole country was watching the efforts made to make it. Chandrababu Naidu broke away from the BJP, but was seen trying to join hands with the Congress. It is also a fact that Naidu later joined the TDP formed by NT Rama Rao after parting ways with the Congress. Due to Naidu’s proximity to the Congress, many leaders including Pandula Ravindra Babu had started leaving the TDP, yet there was no effect on Naidu.
Apart from this, the mistake of not taking Jagan Mohan Reddy’s election preparations seriously also weighed heavily on Chandrababu Naidu. Jagan Mohan Reddy was constantly making his way from the road to the houses of the general public. Due to this the general public also reposed faith in Reddy and his party got a big victory. In the year 2019, out of 175 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam Party got only 23 seats while Jagan Mohan Reddy took charge of Andhra Pradesh with 151 seats. In the Lok Sabha elections in the same year, Chandrababu Naidu’s party got only three out of 25 seats.
Not only was the anti-incumbency wave in the state the reason for this defeat, but Naidu’s mistakes were also the reason for this. Now Chandrababu Naidu is trying to get power again in the state. For this, sometimes he is communicating with the public, and sometimes he is taking the failures of the Reddy government to the public.
In this sequence, TDP chief says that Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party are continuously insulting him in the state. Meanwhile, Naidu’s wife Nara Bhuvneshwari was hurt by the indecent remarks made by the ruling party in the assembly that she wept in conversation with the workers and talked about going to the assembly only when she comes back to power. The video related to this also started going viral on social media. TDP workers have started demonstration across the state. This must have made the people of the state aware of sympathy for Naidu. Its impact can be seen on the women voters of the state. There is also sympathy for Naidu on social media.
If Chandrababu Naidu is able to rectify his old mistakes and be able to reconnect with the general public, then he may be able to fulfill his promise by occupying power again in Andhra Pradesh.
