Very few people would know why the festival of Eid is celebrated. It is believed that the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr was first celebrated in 624 AD. According to experts of Islam, Prophet Hazrat Mohammad, the originator of Islam, had won the battle of Badr. The festival of Eid is celebrated with joy since this victory of Prophet Mohammad. Before the festival of Eid, people of Muslim community who follow Islam observe fast for 30 days. Fasting starts with the sighting of the moon and on the next day of seeing the moon in the month of Shawwal, Muslims all over the world celebrate the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
This time the festival of Eid is going to be held on 11th April. That is, if the moon of Shawwal is visible on 10th April, then Eid will be celebrated the next day. The holy month of Ramadan ends when the moon of Shawwal is visible. The Muslim community also donates during Eid-ul-Fitr and before that during Ramadan. This is called Zakat. Doing Zakat has been considered a very noble act in Islam. The Muslim community works to help the poor through Zakat.
