New Delhi. The judicial custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested on March 21 in the Delhi liquor scam case, was extended on Monday till April 15 and now the convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been sent to Tihar Jail. Due to this, the process of running the government from jail is likely to become more complicated. Kejriwal has been kept in Tihar jail number 2. They will be allowed to meet Delhi government officials in connection with work, as per the names submitted and accepted in the court.
Kejriwal can also meet family members twice a week, but their names must be on the list that has been approved by the jail security. Regular health checkups of Kejriwal, who is suffering from diabetes, will also be done. Meanwhile, former Tihar Jail PRO Sunil Kumar Gupta said that it would be very challenging for him to run the government from behind bars.

Gupta has said that a dedicated support system is required for the Chief Minister. At present, none of the 16 jails has the necessary infrastructure to accommodate the Chief Minister’s office. He said governance involves more than just signing documents as it requires holding cabinet meetings, consulting with ministers, engaging with staff and communicating with the Lieutenant Governor. Gupta said that it is practically impossible to establish the Chief Minister’s office inside the jail. In contrast, prisoners are allowed daily brief, recorded phone calls with their families.
After all, why has Kejriwal been kept in jail number 2?
Jail number 2 of Tihar is for convicted prisoners. Sentenced prisoners live in this jail. There is no issue of bringing or taking convicted prisoners anywhere, they live in their own barracks. Therefore, this jail has been considered suitable for Kejriwal’s security. There is a general area in jail number 2. There is a barrack in it and Kejriwal has been kept in it. Four security personnel will be deployed outside the barrack all the time and the barrack will be kept under CCTV surveillance 24 hours.
