The first Test match played between West Indies and England at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua ended in a draw. However, playing a draw has now cost the West Indies and for this it has received a strict punishment from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Apart from punishing West Indies, the ICC has also deducted two points from it in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). West Indies have lost two points for a slow over rate after the drawn first Test in Antigua and have now slipped to number eight in the WTC points table.
The ICC said in a statement on Monday that the Windies team, captained by Craig Brathwaite, were two overs behind within the stipulated time. The West Indies team had to pay a fine of 40 percent of the match fee. Now the team is at the eighth position in the nine-team points table.

This is West Indies’ first offense of a slow over-rate in this WTC season. India had three points and ninth-placed England had lost ten points from ten matches so far. Under WTC rules, a team will lose one WTC point and 20 percent of the match fee for each over in the event of a slow over rate.
