New Delhi: Asaduddin Owaisi is in danger of losing his membership. A complaint has been made to the President to cancel the membership of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi who raised the slogan ‘Jai Palestine’ during the oath taking ceremony as a Lok Sabha member on Tuesday. A Supreme Court lawyer has complained about Owaisi to President Draupadi Murmu. Supreme Court advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain said in a social media post late on Tuesday night that his father and senior Supreme Court advocate Hari Shankar Jain has filed this complaint.
Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain wrote on X, ‘Shankar Jain has filed a complaint before the President under Articles 102 and 103 of the Constitution against Asaduddin Owaisi, demanding his disqualification as a Member of Parliament.’ Let us tell you that All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi raised slogans in favor of a war-torn West Asian region after taking oath as a Lok Sabha member on Tuesday, after which the ruling party members created a ruckus and the Speaker directed to remove it from the record.
Owaisi, who was elected as a member from Hyderabad for the fifth time, took oath in Urdu. He read a prayer before taking the oath. After his oath, he raised the slogan of AIMIM for Muslims, besides raising slogans in favour of his state Telangana, Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. Owaisi raised slogans in favour of the region of West Asia which is currently facing war and is at the centre of discussion at the international level. After his oath, some members of the ruling party objected, due to which uproar started in the House.
In fact, according to Article 102, a person shall be ineligible to be elected as a member of either House of Parliament and to be a member – if he holds any office of profit under the Government of India or any State Government, or has been declared mentally incompetent by a court, or has been declared bankrupt, or is not a citizen of India or accepts citizenship of any other country along with India, or has been declared disqualified under any law passed by Parliament. Article 103 empowers the President to decide on the eligibility of the concerned MP on receipt of any complaint under Article 102. However, it is necessary to consult the Election Commission before taking any decision.
