Heart Attack and High Cholesterol: Every day there have been reports of death of many people while in the gym. People work hard for hours in the gym to build their body. Especially the urban youth is crazy about gym. It is generally believed that incidents like heart attack do not happen in youth but unhealthy lifestyle has proved this to be a lie. Now youth are also falling prey to heart attacks. Therefore, it is important to know why youth are falling victim to heart attacks in the gym. Although there can be many reasons for a sudden heart attack in the gym, but can high cholesterol be responsible for it? To know this, we spoke to the Head of Cardiology Department at Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi. Dr. Nityanand Tripathi talked to.
Uncustomized exercises should not be done
Dr. Nityanand Tripathi said that the reason for heart attack during gym will be known only after investigation, but if you do uncustomized work out in the gym, i.e. you do hard exercise very fast, then it can be the reason for heart attack. Is. Therefore, if you go to the gym, do not start doing very strenuous exercises as soon as you go. Gradually do light exercise and increase the load by taking rest for 10-15 days. As far as the reason for high cholesterol is concerned, it could be a heart attack, but in this we have to see how high the cholesterol is. Normally total cholesterol should be less than 200. If it is more than 240 then it can lead to heart attack. In this we have to see how much LDL i.e. low density lipoprotein is there. It should be below 100. If it is more than this then we need to conduct many more tests. After this it has to be decided whether the person is fit to do hard exercise in the gym or not.
Will know after test
Dr. Nityanand Tripathi told that first the lipid profile is checked to check whether you can do hard exercise in the gym or not. If it is more than normal then ECG, echo test etc. is done. TMT test i.e. treadmill test is done to check whether your heart is capable of doing tough exercises in the gym or not. Treadmill test shows whether you can exercise in the gym or not. In TMT, mainly blood pressure and what is the blood pressure and heart rate while running is examined. Therefore, if you have high cholesterol, first consult a doctor and only then do hard exercise in the gym on his advice. Many tests show whether you can do hard exercise in the gym or not.
TMT will tell whether you are fit for gym or not
Dr. Nityanand Tripathi told that the target heart rate during exercise is 220 minus (-) 85 percent of the age. This is a safer limit during exercise. If while running on tread mile the result is 220 minus (-) age and its result is up to 85 percent then it is absolutely perfect. But if it comes more than this then you need to work out carefully in the gym. It can also be understood in this way that suppose your age is 30 years, then your heart rate will be 220-30. That means 190. Now if the heart rate is 85 percent of 190 i.e. up to 161.5 then it is safe. That means, if the heart rate of a 30 year old person reaches 161 during exercise, there is not much danger. If it exceeds this, then do exercise slowly for the first one or two months and increase its load. Do not do strenuous exercise suddenly. Do exercise slowly.
