Will Shambhu border open or not? The Supreme Court will decide this today

New Delhi. The Haryana government has challenged the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to open the Shambhu border in the Supreme Court. Today, this matter will be heard in the country’s Supreme Court. The Punjab-Haryana High Court had issued an order to open the Shambhu border on National Highway-1 within a week. The deadline of this order is ending today i.e. on 24 June. Citing law and order, the Haryana government has challenged this order in the Supreme Court.

The farmers are adamant that as soon as the border opens, they will march straight towards Delhi. On the other hand, the BJP government of Haryana is in no mood to allow them to cross the border at any cost. This is the reason why the government has approached the Supreme Court. The farmers have been sitting on a dharna since before the Lok Sabha elections with their 12 demands including increasing the minimum support price. These farmers who came from Punjab were stopped from coming to Delhi at the Haryana border itself.

What is the argument of Haryana government?
There is a BJP government at the centre. In such a situation, the BJP government of Haryana would not want the farmers to reach the country’s capital. Challenging the order of the Punjab-Haryana High Court in its petition, the state government said that despite clearly mentioning the law and order issue, the High Court issued an order to open the Shambhu border without knowing the ground reality. The subject of law and order is a state subject under the Constitution. It is our responsibility to maintain law and order.
