Shivsena’s statement has come to the fore on the demand of making the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ tax free. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that even when the film on Balasaheb Thackeray was not made tax free, people still came to see it. Many states including UP, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Karnataka, Goa, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh have made ‘The Kashmir Files’ tax free. The film focuses on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the 1990s.
Sanjay Raut said, leave the film The Kashmir Files, when we made the film on Balasaheb Thackeray, we did not make it tax free, yet people came to see it. He said, ‘Balasaheb Thackeray had also kept quota in medical and engineering for the children of Kashmiri Pandits in Maharashtra. Kashmir Pandits know Shiv Sena. Everyone knows how The Kashmir Files was made, why it was made and what is the agenda of this film. The politics being done on this film is not right.
‘The Kashmir Files’ is directed by filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri and stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar and others. It is released on 11 March. With the release of the film, a new discussion has started regarding the condition of Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir.
