Bye-elections will be held once again in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. Mohammad Azam Khan, who was elected as the city MLA for the tenth time, has resigned from the membership of the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Now in the by-election to be held on the Lok Sabha seat, the challenge will be before the SP to retain its seat.
In the UP assembly elections, this time the Samajwadi Party had fielded Azam Khan, the party’s strong leader and MP, from the city seat. When the results came on March 10, Azam Khan was again elected as the city MLA for the tenth time. He defeated his nearest rival BJP candidate Akash Saxena by 54 thousand votes. After this victory of Azam Khan, it was decided that Rampur would once again have a by-election. After Azam Khan resigned from the membership of Lok Sabha on Tuesday, it was also decided that now the by-election will not be held on Vis seat but on Lok Sabha seat.
By-election was also held in 2019
By-elections were also held in Rampur in the Lok Sabha elections held in 2019. Samajwadi Party made Azam Khan, who became MLA from the city in 2017, the party had made the party’s candidate in the Lok Sabha elections held in 2019. Azam Khan won the Lok Sabha elections. After this victory, he resigned from the post of city MLA. After this, in 2019 itself, a by-election was held on the city seat. In this by-election, Azam Khan’s wife Dr. Tanzin Fatma was nominated by the SP. Dr. Tanzin Fatma had won the election. Azam is now a member of the Lok Sabha and has now become an MLA as well.
