Jaipur. Governor Kalraj Mishra has said that the work of listing the monuments for UNESCO World Heritage Site should be done effectively. He said that along with preparing a proposal in this regard, work should also be done on a common long-term policy of conservation and maintenance of monuments.
Governor Mishra was addressing a meeting organized at Raj Bhavan here on Monday on the subject of ‘Preservation of the rich heritage of Rajasthan’. During this, the Governor stressed on the protection of Jaisalmer Fort and effective solution of the problem of encroachment there keeping in mind all the aspects. Appreciating the suggestion of celebrating Maharana Pratap’s coronation day, he said that by doing so, the public’s association with the historical places related to the life of Maharana Pratap will increase further.
The Governor said that historical and ancient monuments are a sign of our past and cultural splendor and everyone will have to work together to preserve this heritage of Rajasthan as well as create cultural awareness about it. He said that Rajasthan has great potential in terms of heritage sites to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Being recognized as a World Heritage Site not only protects the place effectively, making a place on the world tourism map also boosts its economy and employment.
The Governor said that a society and a nation can remain connected to its roots only with the awareness of cultural heritage. From this point of view, there are many important places like Kiradu Temple in Barmer, Jagat Mandir near Udaipur, Bhangarh, Neelkanth Temple near Tahla in Alwar, Temple of Bijolia, Keshavarayapatan in Bundi, Buddhist Caves of Jhalawar, Shiva Temple of Bisalpur in Tonk, whose protection is required.
National Monuments Authority Chairman Tarun Vijay said that efforts are being made continuously by the Central Government to bring back India’s heritage from abroad and to preserve the cultural and historical heritage in the country. He said that the Archaeological Department of the State Government and the Archaeological Survey of India should prepare a proposal to include the Jain temples of Ranakpur, Dilwara, Pushkar Brahma Temple in the UNESCO World Heritage List. He suggested the development of Jauhar Sthal in Chittorgarh fort and starting a light and sound show there. He also called for effective work at the administration level to solve the problem of encroachment in various monuments of national importance including Jaisalmer Fort.
Gayatri Rathod, Principal Secretary, Art, Literature, Culture and Tourism Department said that to save the glorious cultural and historical heritage of the state, panorama has been prepared at more than 40 places in the state. He said that efforts are being made at the state government level to include the Desert National Park Jaisalmer in the list of World Heritage.
