Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on Wednesday described retired Supreme Court judge Justice Aniruddha Bose as a hardworking and compassionate judge and a true ‘bhadralok’ (gentleman) who was willing to do justice to the person sitting last in the queue. Were. Justice Bose, who was elevated as the apex court judge on May 24, 2019, is stepping down on April 10. He is all set to start his next innings as the Director of the National Judicial Academy in Bhopal.
As per Supreme Court practices, Justice Bose, the fifth senior-most judge of the apex court, was part of the ceremonial bench headed by the CJI on his last day in office. Describing Justice Bose as a friend and a man of many virtues, the CJI said, “My learned brother Justice Anirudh is a well-educated, hard-working, exceptionally just, a compassionate person and a judge who stands tall in the society. We wish to do justice to the last person.”
The CJI said Justice Bose was ideally suited to lead the National Judicial Academy in Bhopal and the judges were unanimous in his support that there could be no better person than “our educationist, jurist, Justice Bose” to fill that role. . Justice Chandrachud said, “We will indeed remember Justice Bose, as I said in my speech at the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) function on Tuesday, that he reflects a true Bengali ‘bhadralok’ (gentleman).
In his concluding remarks, he said, “It is an honor for us to serve in the court where Justice Bose served and we wish you all the best for your new assignment, we hope that you will take charge soon.” Justice Bose thanked the bar and judges for their support. Justice Bose said, “What I have learned in these five years (as a Supreme Court judge) is more than what I have learned in the last 60 years.”
