Year 1991 and month January. Things were not right in the African country of Somalia as armed rebel groups ousted the then President Mohamed Siad Bare from power. All were fighting among themselves for the throne. The rebel faction itself split into two factions in the greed of power. Now the conflict was between Ali Mehndi Mohamed and Mohammad Farah Addidi. When the general public got crushed in this power war, the United Nations started Operation in Somalia.
This move of the UN led the group of Mohammad Farah Addidi to protest. Then after several months the year passed and 1992 came. Then the then US President George Bush sent US troops in the name of peacekeeping, which gave stability to Somalia. This situation continued to remain like this and then in the year 1993, Bill Clinton took over as the US President. America felt its intimidation in these years and the operation of the peacekeeping force was increased.
In the meantime, the new President made a plan as to why the leaders of these rebel groups should not be captured and then something should be done. But this move was also pointing to a much greater danger, in which there was talk of throwing everyone again in the conditions of war. However, on 3 October 1993, as planned, the US contingent moved towards Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. Here he had to capture the close relatives of Mohammad Farah Addidi.
According to the plan, this work was to be completed between one and a half to one hour. American commands were to land in Mogadishu by helicopter and then carry out ground fighting on foot. The operation started but American commandos were badly trapped in Mogadishu. Somalia’s military shot down two of America’s best Black Hawk helicopters. One pilot was taken hostage and 18 American soldiers were killed.
The American squad, trapped in bad conditions, opened fire indiscriminately in the rescue, in which hundreds of Somalian civilians lost their lives. 84 American soldiers were injured in this battle and then after 11 days of effort, the pilot was freed from hostage crisis. The result of the failure of this mission was that the then President Bill Clinton had decided to withdraw the US army from Somalia within 6 months.
