New Delhi. Before the start of the Indian Premier League, the women’s franchise team of 5-time champion Mumbai Indians will look to secure a ticket for its second consecutive final. Defending champion Mumbai Indians will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Eliminator on Friday. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur will enter the team with the intention of reaching the second consecutive final.
Mumbai’s record in the league stage has been better than RCB with five wins and three losses. However, RCB defeated them easily by seven wickets in their last league match. The Mumbai team is considering it as just a bad day. Mumbai Indians batting coach Devika Palshikar said, “I have seen consistency in the team’s performance. If we leave out the last match, we have performed well. The performance in the last match was not good, but it is okay.
He said, “We are ready for the next match.” This (poor performance against RCB) happened before the eliminator so we are taking it as a good sign.
RCB has improved a lot compared to last year, but the Smriti Mandhana-led team has lacked consistency in its performance. He won four matches and faced defeat in the same number of matches. Team head coach Luke Williams expressed hope for better performance from the players in this match.
“We are really excited to qualify for the playoffs,” he said. Different players performed well in different matches and took the team to this stage. We were never close to perfection during this time, however. We have to improve our performance. Hopefully we will play some good cricket on Friday.
Out of four matches between the two teams, the results of three have been in favor of Mumbai. The winner of this match will face Delhi Capitals in the final on Sunday.
