India’s wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has been receiving threats from a journalist. From former cricketers to the Indian Cricketers’ Association, they have given their opinion on the matter. Now Virender Sehwag, the former explosive batsman of India and popularly known as Sultan of Multan, has also given his reaction on the matter.
What advice did Sehwag give to Saha?
Sehwag posted on social media and extended his support to Saha. He wrote- Dear Riddhi, it is not in your nature to harm others and you are a wonderful person. However, this should not happen to any other cricketer in future, so it is important that you give the name of that journalist. Take a deep breath and say the name.
Saha declined to name the journalist.
Earlier, Saha had refused to name the journalist who made the threat. He said – till now no official from BCCI side has spoken to him. If he is asked to reveal the name of the journalist, he will say that he never intended to end someone’s career. For this reason, he did not reveal the name in his tweet.
Saha had said- My parents have not taught me this. My aim was that everyone should know that the media is doing such a thing. The purpose of my tweet was that players should not face such things in future.
What is the whole matter?
The Indian team was announced for the T20 and Test series against Sri Lanka on 19 February. Senior players like Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha were not found in the Test team. After this a journalist messaged Saha and demanded an interview. Saha did not reply to this.
The journalist wrote, “Do an interview with me, that would be great. If you want to be democratic, I won’t pressurize you. They pick one wicketkeeper, who is the best. You try to pick 11 journalists, who are my friends.” is not right. Choose the one who can help you the most.”
When he did not get a reply, the journalist called him on WhatsApp, but Saha did not receive the call. After this the journalist wrote, “You didn’t talk to me, I will never interview you again. I don’t accept humiliation easily and I will remember it. You shouldn’t have done that.” Sharing the screenshots of the entire conversation on his Twitter account, Saha informed everyone about the incident.
Indian Cricketers Association also supported Saha
After this, on Tuesday, the Indian Cricketers Association condemned the journalist’s threat and gave a statement in support of Saha. Along with this, the organization welcomed the decision of BCCI, in which it has been said to get the entire matter investigated. The president of the organization, Ashok Malhotra had said that we accept that media contributes significantly to the development of our sport and sportspersons, but there is always a limit here, which should not be crossed.
