Gorakhpur. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will lead ‘Holika Dahan’ in Gorakhpur on Thursday evening and Lord Narsingh Holiotsav Shobha Yatra on Saturday.
These events were not held in the last two years due to the pandemic.
Yogi Adityanath will reach Gorakhpur on Thursday evening on a three-day tour.
Every year Lord Narasimha, the head of the Goraksha Peeth drenched in colors, rides a chariot and Narasimha wishes everyone a Happy Holi without any discrimination during the Shobha Yatra.
After Mahant Digvijaynath and Mahant Avaidyanath Yogi, the head of the Peeth, Yogi Adityanath is taking forward the movement of social harmony. Temple secretary Dwarka Tiwari said that the Narasimha Shobha Yatra, named after Lord Narasimha, who killed the demon king Hiranyakashyap, was started in 1945 by Mahant Digvijaynath, the predecessor of Yogi’s guru, Mahant Avaidyanath, and since then it has been To this day this tradition continues.
On this occasion, Yogi Adityanath wears sunglasses and a raincoat before starting the yatra on a motorized chariot. The Yatra passes through the narrow streets of the city through the busy Sarafa Bazar where it is greeted by the locals with colors and rose petals.
The procession, which is attended by a large number of BJP and RSS leaders and workers, covers a distance of 5 kilometers and ends at the temple.
Later, Yogi Adityanath along with eminent citizens participate in a ceremony where the singing of ‘fagua’ – sacred songs is a major attraction.
He also participates in ‘Holika Dahan’ before the journey.
A BJP leader said, “This is the occasion when the devotees get a direct chance to play colors with the Peethadheeshwar.”
