‘The process of recovery from injury was quite boring but..’
The 33-year-old batsman said that the process of recovering from the injury was quite boring for him but he thought of taking full advantage of this time. Surya said, ‘It is very difficult for me to talk about the last three or three and a half months. It was frustrating in the first two-three weeks because I felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again in rehabilitation. From the fourth-fifth week I felt that this is necessary for the future. He said that during this period the conversation with his wife changed his perspective.
This aggressive batsman said, ‘When I talked to my wife and the people of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), they said that you have to change yourself, when you come back to the field, you have to be a little different. I started doing all the little things like sleeping on time, eating better diet. This was most important. Suryakumar said that staying away from the game helped him focus on aspects that he had neglected and helped him recover faster.
‘I have never read a book in my life’
According to Suryakumar Yadav, ‘I had never read a book in my life and now I have started reading. I started focusing on things within my control, including waking up early in the morning and spending time at the rehabilitation center. I focused on improving myself. When I got injured I realized what were the things I wanted to work on. I got two-three months to work on fitness and my body also. On this occasion, Suryakumar Yadav praised the coaches and staff of Bengaluru-based NCA.
‘I express my gratitude to all of them’
He said, ‘I am really grateful to everyone at NCA, from the support staff, trainers to the physios, who took care of me. Things were not feeling right for me in the first few days but then he took it seriously and understood very well how I wanted to work. Surya’s team is at ninth position in the points table of IPL. Mumbai Indians have won only one out of 5 matches.
