In Srinagar on Friday in Srinagar against the passage of Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, the police stopped the protest march of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the party office was blocked and stopped the protesters inside the campus.
Several PDP workers led by party general secretary Khurshid Alam gathered at the party headquarters near Sher-e-Kashmir Park to protest the passage of the Act.
The Act was passed last week.
PDP workers went out of the party office and tried to march towards the center of the city, but a team of police personnel stopped them from going out of the office. The police put inhibitors at the gate, which stopped the protesters there.
The protesters took placards in their hands, on which messages such as the ‘We reject the Waqf Bill’ and ‘Neck (National Conference) silence are criminal’.
He also raised slogans demanding the cancellation of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, after which the protesters dispersed peacefully.
Talking to reporters, Alam said that he wanted to protest peacefully but the police stopped him.
He said, “We wanted to oppose the Waqf Bill. We understand that no class of society accepts this bill. The way it was passed in Parliament at midnight, we reject it. ”
The PDP general secretary said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attitude towards the Muslims of the country is condemnable, but the criminal silence of the neck on this issue is regrettable.
He said, “We condemn the role of Nekan in passing this Act.” He said that the neck is fooling the people.
