BJP and Congress fielded candidates
Today BJP has expressed confidence in Swaroopji Sardarji Thakor from Vav seat in its list for Gujarat by-election, while Congress has made Gulab Singh Rajput its candidate. Let us inform you that two assembly seats are vacant in the state, but the Election Commission has announced to hold by-elections on one (Vav) seat.
Vav is the stronghold of Congress
Let us tell you that this seat had become vacant after the resignation of Congress MLA Geniben Thakor after being elected Lok Sabha MP from Banaskantha in June. Vav assembly is considered a Congress stronghold, from here Geniben had won the elections in 2017 and 2022. Ganiben has once again expressed confidence of the party’s victory from here and also appealed to the people to vote for Congress.
AAP will not field candidates
In the 182-member Gujarat Assembly, BJP has 161 members while Congress has 12 MLAs. Besides, there are 4 AAP MLAs, 1 SP and 2 independent MLAs. Aam Aadmi Party is an ally of India Alliance in Gujarat, hence AAP has decided not to field its candidate here.
