Gujarat: Second son of minister Bachubhai Khabad in Dahod's MNREGA scam also arrested

Dahod: A major action has been taken by the police in the Dahod MNREGA scam of Gujarat. The police have also arrested the second son of Gujarat minister Bachubhai Khabar. Four people, including minister’s son Kiran Khabar, have been arrested. TDO and two APOs of Dhanpur have also been arrested in this case.

Please tell that there was a complaint of 71 crore scam in the MNREGA scheme. The minister had two agencies in the names of both sons. Balwant Khabar, the elder son of the minister, was arrested 2 days ago. So far 11 people have been arrested in this case.

According to the information received, a big scam has come to light in the MNREGA scheme in Dahod district of Gujarat. There has been a disturbance in the construction of roads between 2021 and 2025 in Dhanpur and three other villages of Deogarh Baria taluka. It is alleged that 35 agencies together have scammed more than Rs 71 crore. DSP Bhandari was investigating the matter. The complaint included the names of Balwant Khabar and Kiran Khabar, sons of Panchayat Minister Bachubhai Khabar. On Wednesday, Balwant Khabar filed an anticipatory bail application in Dahod Court, which he later withdrew. After this, news has come today that Balwant Khabar and TDO (taluka development officer) Darshan Patel were arrested. Later, the second son of Bachubhai Khabar was also arrested.

What is MNREGA scheme?

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) is a law implemented by the Government of India on September 7, 2005. Its objective is to provide at least 100 days of guaranteed wages in a financial year to every family in rural areas, whose adult members are willing to perform unskilled manual labor. The scheme aims to increase rural livelihood security, create sustainable rural assets and ensure social inclusion of women, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. MNREGA is mainly implemented by Gram Panchayats and the participation of contractors is prohibited.
