What is ‘triple policy dispute’?
Recently, the Maharashtra government issued a GR and ordered that it would be mandatory to teach Hindi as a third language in Marathi and English medium schools from first to fifth. Many academics, language experts and Marathi language lovers raised strict objections against this decision. He believed that in primary classes, the mother tongue should be focused more, otherwise it could weaken the foundation of learning children’s language.
What will the new committee do?
New Committee constituted by the government:
– It will decide which class of third language should be started from
– What can be the process of implementing language
– How many and what options should be given to students
Advisory Committee Opposition
Earlier, the language advisory committee of the state government had also demanded the withdrawal of this decision. 20 out of 27 members present in the meeting held in Pune unanimously passed the resolution and said that it is not right to implement any third language before class 5.
Eknath Shinde’s sharp stain
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “When the accusers were in power, he himself made three languages - Marathi, English and Hindi mandatory. Now that he is out of power, he has been strongly protested.” He also said that his government is bringing Marathi speaking people back to Mumbai.
What was the old order?
It was said in the order of the state government that if at least 20 students in a class of a school want to read any other Indian language, then they can be exempted from Hindi. For this, either a new teacher will be appointed or online classes will be provided.
At present, the decision to implement Hindi language in schools in Maharashtra has been postponed and the government has indicated that the further route will be done on the decisions of the expert committee recommendations. Due to this, there has been a stop in the ongoing dispute over the triple policy.
