One person died while another was injured after being beaten by a mob in Vadodara.

Vadodara: In Vadodara city of Gujarat, a mob beat up two people on suspicion of being thieves, due to which one person died while the other got injured. Giving information about this on Saturday, the police said that the local people had caught a total of 3 people against whom cases of theft had been registered earlier also. DCP Panna Momaya said that three policemen were also injured while trying to stop the mob during the midnight attack near a police station in Varasia area.

‘All three were roaming on a stolen bike’

DCP said that the local people caught three people against whom several theft cases were registered and they were trying to flee the area at that time. The officer said that the three had come to the area riding a stolen motorcycle and were allegedly roaming with the intention of committing theft. He told, ‘Three people were riding on a stolen motorcycle. They parked their bikes and started walking together when some people asked them what they were doing there so late in the night. They tried to run away and two of them were caught by the mob and beaten up.

‘Death of 30 year old Shahbaz Pathan’

The DCP said that the incident had taken place near the police station and the policemen had rushed to save the youth from being beaten and to stop the mob. He told that during this scuffle, three policemen were also injured. DCP said that both the injured youths were taken to the government hospital where 30-year-old Shahbaz Pathan was declared brought dead while 20-year-old Akram Tiliawada is undergoing treatment. The police officer said that 10 cases of theft were registered against Pathan, while 7 cases were registered against Tiliawada.

PASA is also registered against all three accused

The officer said that a case was also registered against both of them under Gujarat Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act. He said that there are 3 cases registered against the third person Shahid Shaikh and he has also been booked under PASA. “We have recovered tools from their possession and even the two-wheeler on which they were riding was stolen,” the officer said.
