Jammu-Kashmir Election Results 2024: The results of Jammu-Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024 have started coming. In this election, the electoral contest on Gurez assembly seat was quite interesting. On this seat, Nazir Ahmed Khan of National Conference defeated Fakir Mohammad Khan of BJP by a margin of about 1100 votes. The results of this seat surprised all the political pundits, because despite having Muslim majority, BJP lost here by so few votes.

Gurez assembly seat is located in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. This seat emerged as a key seat in the 2024 assembly elections. Considering the social and cultural scenario of the population of this region, this seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST). Voting was held here on October 1 in the third phase of state elections.

Gurez assembly seat is part of Baramulla Lok Sabha seat. The 2024 Lok Sabha elections were won by independent candidate Abdul Rashid Shaikh from Baramulla, who defeated National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah. Talking about the candidates, there were five major candidates in the fray from Gurez seat in this assembly election, including Fakir Mohammad Khan (BJP), Ghulam Rasool (Independent), Mohammad Hamza Lone (JKPF), Nazir Ahmed Khan (JKNC), and Nisar Ahmed. Lone (JKDPAZ) was in the election fray.

Gurez saw a record-breaking voter participation of 78.04% this time, with a total of 21,982 registered voters. Of these, 11,317 were men and 10,438 were women. This seat is geographically connected to the borders of PoK and Ladakh and has always been a politically sensitive area. This time’s election shows the changing nature of the political environment here in which BJP showed its influence even in Muslim dominated areas, while National Conference maintained its hold.
