Shreyas Iyer batted brilliantly in both the innings of the Pink Ball Test against Sri Lanka being played in Bangalore. He scored 92 runs in the first innings and took the team’s score to 250 on his own. After this, in the second innings too, his bat spoke fiercely on the difficult pitch of Chinnaswamy and he played a brilliant innings of 67 runs.
With this Shreyas Iyer has become the fourth player in the world to score more than 50 runs in both the innings of the Pink Ball Test. However, this has happened five times before as Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne has done it twice. At the same time, he is also the first Indian to do so.
Shreyas Iyer’s luck is running high these days. He made his debut in the Kanpur Test for India in the New Zealand series last year. In his first international test, he scored a century in the first innings and a half-century in the second innings. Since then he has been a part of the Test team continuously. He also has the most runs so far in the ongoing Bangalore Test.
Looking at his career, he has so far scored 388 runs in seven innings of 4 Test matches at an average of 55.43. Which includes one century and three half-centuries. In ODI career, he has 947 runs in 26 matches and 809 runs in 36 T20Is. In IPL too, Iyer has scored 2375 runs in 87 matches.
In IPL also Shreyas Iyer has been given the command of Shahrukh Khan’s franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He also scored half-centuries in all three matches of the T20I series against Sri Lanka and played a key role in India’s clean sweep. He was also adjudged Player of the Series. Currently, he is proving to be an important link in the team of all three formats of India.
