In fact, Cricket South Africa’s selection coordinator Viktor Mpitsang has told ESPN Cricinfo that Enrique Nortje is very difficult to play in the IPL. In fact, he was not even seen playing against India and New Zealand in the last two series.
Let us tell you that South Africa has to play three ODIs and two Test matches against Bangladesh from March 18 to April 11. For which the team has been selected and the ODI series will be played till March 23, in which there are about 8 South African players who are part of IPL teams. IPL is to start from 26 March.
Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Rasi Van der Dusen, Aiden Markram, Yansin are also part of the Test Squad. In such a situation, there is a suspense over these players. All eyes are on Enrique Nortje, who has been out for the last few series. The selection coordinator, Victor, has described his going to the IPL as very difficult.
He said that, ‘It can be very difficult for Nortje to go to the IPL. He has not been able to bowl since November. We also have no clear information about his return. This is quite a long time. The medical team will give more details on whether he is fit for IPL or not. Nortje is also out of the squad for the upcoming Bangladesh series.
Cricket South Africa’s Chief Medical Officer Shuhaib Manjra said, “Nortje’s recovery is very disturbing. Presently also he is under the care of three different orthopedic surgeons. He is facing problem while taking the runup. He hasn’t bowled for the last 3 months. He is not ready for Bangladesh series and can’t say for IPL right now. His recovery from injury is difficult.
It is worth noting that Delhi Capitals had retained Enrique Nortje for Rs 6.5 crore along with Rishabh Pant (16 Cr), Axar Patel (9 Cr), Prithvi Shaw (7.5 Cr). In his place, the franchise had also dropped key bowler Kagiso Rabada. After which Preity Zinta’s Punjab Kings had roped in Rabada for Rs 9.25 crore.
