The 59th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is being played between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. There was no Decision Review System (DRS) available at the start of this match due to power issues. The toss was also delayed by a few minutes due to a power issue. Not only this, one of the floodlight towers did not get enough power supply.
An official of the Mumbai Cricket Association told The Indian Express, “There was a short circuit before the toss and there was a problem with the system. Because of this the toss was delayed. A floodlight tower was not getting enough power supply. Officials are working to restore the system.
Chennai Super Kings also had to bear the brunt of not having enough power? Actually, Daniel Sams gave a golden duck to Chennai Super Kings’ second opener Devon Conway on the second ball of the first over. This ball from Sams was a good length ball coming in. Conway wanted to flick, but the ball hit the pads. There was an appeal for the leg before and the umpire gave him out. The ball might have missed the leg-stumps, but Conway had to return to the pavilion as DRS was not an option.
Watching the TV replays, it was clear that the ball would have missed the leg-stumps. It would not be wrong to say that in a way, it was the lightning that lit the lights of Chennai Super Kings on the very second ball of the match. In the next over, Jasprit Bumrah lbw Robin Uthappa. After the umpire gave out LBW, Uthappa signaled for a review, but as this facility was not available, he had to accept the on-field umpire’s decision and return to the pavilion.
Talking about the match, the entire team of Chennai Super Kings was reduced to 97 runs in 16 overs. His 7 batsmen could not touch the double figure. MS Dhoni remained unbeaten on 36 off 33 balls. Apart from them, only Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dubey and Dwayne Bravo could reach double digits. Chennai Super Kings have the second lowest score in the history of the Indian Premier League. Not only this, while batting first, Chennai Super Kings were all out for the first time for less than 100 runs.
