Mark Wood has been ruled out of the entire IPL season due to swelling following an elbow injury in the Test match against West Indies. In such a situation, Lucknow Super Giants approached Bangladeshi bowler Taskin Ahmed. But Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not give ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) to Taskin to play in IPL 2022.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, BCB’s Chairman of Cricket Operations Jalal Yunus informed the reporters that, ‘We are currently playing a series against South Africa on an overseas tour. After that we have to play home series against India. Keeping these two important series in mind, it would not be appropriate for him (Taskin) to participate in the IPL.
He further told that, ‘We spoke to Taskin and told about the same whole situation. He also understood this and while giving this information to the franchise, he has asked not to play IPL. He will be present for the South Africa tour and then return home.
England pacer Mark Wood was bought by the KL Rahul-led franchise Lucknow Supergiants for a whopping price of 7.5 crores. But keeping in mind the seriousness of his injury and the T20 World Cup to be held this year, England Cricket did not consider it appropriate to take any kind of risk.
Gautam Gambhir met Taskin
According to the report of a Bangladeshi website, Lucknow’s mentor Gautam Gambhir met the 26-year-old fast bowler on Sunday evening and offered him an IPL contract. But Gambhir had also placed a condition in front of him that he would not participate in the two-Test series against South Africa starting from March 31.
Following this proposal from the IPL franchise, the Bangladeshi pacer had sought some time to consider and discuss it with the Bangladesh team management and board. When Taskin informed the board, now Taskin Ahmed had to turn down this proposal of Lucknow Supergiants team due to non-receipt of NOC from his side.
These 4 foreign players will also be away from the opening matches
KL Rahul’s tension does not end here. The other four foreign players in the team could also be out of the opening few matches. Jason Holder is playing the series against England. Quinton de Kock is part of South Africa’s ODI squad against Bangladesh. Marcus Stoinis has to play the series against Pakistan and Cricket Australia has given NOC of 6 April to all its players for IPL. At the same time, Kyle Meyers is also included in the squad of the Windies.
