In the year 1844, the first international cricket match was played between USA and Canada. The first official Test match was held between England and Australia in 1877. After more than 150 years of cricket history, currently cricket is played in three official formats (T20, ODI and Test). Some such records have also been made in these three formats which are still unbroken and it is difficult to break them.
India has two players in this list, while the names of Kangaroo and Caribbean giants are also present in the list. Sachin Tendulkar and Chris Gayle have two such records each which are unbreakable and it is difficult to break them in the coming times. Let’s look one by one on all the records of this list and the players who made them:-
The record of 100 international centuries is recorded in the name of the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. Apart from this, he has the highest number of 34357 runs in international cricket. The special thing is that there is no one around them. Kumar Sangakkara (Retd) has 28016 runs at number two. After this, in the players who are still playing, Virat Kohli is at 7th, Joe Root 26th, Rohit Sharma 31st, David Warner 32nd. Looking at this, it seems that at present it will be very difficult to break this record of Sachin.
Rohit Sharma has recently been appointed the captain of the Indian team for all three formats. He played an innings of 264 runs in the ODI against Sri Lanka in 2014-15. This is the highest score of an innings in ODI history so far. So far this record has not been broken and breaking it is not easy either. Often teams can only make an average of 280 or 270 total scores.
Brian Lara, the legendary West Indies cricketer, scored an unbeaten 400 runs in an innings of a Test match against England in 2004. Even after 18 years, no player has been able to break his record. It will not be easy to break this record of the Caribbean giant even further.
Another swashbuckling batsman from West Indies, Chris Gayle, scored 175 runs in 66 balls against Pune Warriors in IPL 2013. This is the highest score in the history of T20 cricket (both international and franchise). Apart from this, 1000 sixes are also recorded in the name of Universe Boss in T20 and this is a big record in itself. No one has been able to break both of his records so far and breaking it does not seem easy either.
Sri Lanka’s legendary off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has taken 800 wickets in Test cricket and 534 wickets in ODI cricket. Tendulkar in batting and Muralitharan in bowling is the boss of the world. Muralitharan has 1347 international wickets in his name. He is followed by the late Shane Warne (1001), Anil Kumble (956), Glenn McGrath (949). All these players have retired. 5th-ranked James Anderson (927) still plays for England in Test cricket.
Virat Kohli entered international cricket in August 2008, making his ODI debut for India. More than 20 thousand international runs were recorded in his name from 2010 to 2020 and he joined the list of great players of the world. A total of 23614 international runs are recorded in his name so far. He holds the record for the highest score by any player in a decade.
Australian legend Sir Don Bradman played only 52 Test matches for the country but immortalized his name in history. He has 6996 runs in his name in 80 innings. He hit 29 centuries and scored more than 200 scores 12 times. His all-time Test average of 99.94 is the best ever. He played the last Test in August 1948, even after 74 years, this record has not been broken.
England’s legendary off-spinner Jim Laker took 19 wickets in a Test match against Australia in 1956. In this match, he single-handedly bundled out the entire Australian team in one innings. He became the first player in the world to take 10 wickets in an innings. After him, Anil Kumble and recently Ajaz Patel of New Zealand also did this feat. But no one has been able to break Jim Laker’s record of 19 wickets in an innings, even after nearly 66 years.
