Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler won the Orange Cap in the 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The England player scored 863 runs in 17 matches at an average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.05. Lucknow Supergiants captain KL Rahul finished second with 616 runs. Buttler surpassed Delhi Capitals batsman David Warner’s 848 to become the second-highest run-scorer in an IPL season so far.
Butler also scored four centuries and four half-centuries in IPL 2022. He was left behind Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Virat Kohli, who scored a total of 973 runs in 2016. Kohli also scored four centuries. Bangalore team also reached the final and lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both the cricketers captured the Orange Cap, but the team could not win the title.
Missed to break Virat Kohli’s record – Butler equaled Virat Kohli’s record by scoring his fourth century of the season against Bangalore in Qualifier 2. The right-handed batsman had a chance to hold the record for most centuries in a season by scoring a century in the final, but he was dismissed after scoring 39 runs. The kind of form he was running in the beginning of the season, it seemed that he would break Virat Kohli’s record of 973 runs in a season, but it could not happen. He got out early in some matches.
Along with the Orange Cap, Butler was the Player of the Tournament – Butler also got the Player of the Tournament title. He expressed his disappointment over Rajasthan’s defeat in the final. He said, “It is natural to be disappointed. Unfortunately, I have lost a lot of finals in my career.” However, he said that he did not expect him to score 863 runs.
Butler said, “Apart from today I achieved more than I expected. We really wanted to win the trophy. Disappointed by this. Many congratulations to Hardik and the team. They deserved to be champions.
