India’s top shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Korea Open Super 500 badminton tournament on Wednesday with straight game wins in their first round matches.
Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, defeated US’s Lauren Lam 21-15 21-14 while Srikanth defeated Malaysia’s Darren Lew 22-20 21-11 at the Palma Stadium.
Third seed Sindhu, who recently won the Swiss Open title, will next take on Japan’s Aya Ohori, while World Championship silver medalist fifth seed Srikanth will face Israel’s Misha Zilberman.
Men’s doubles pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila also made it to the second round after getting walkovers against Korean pair of Ba Dae Kim and Hee Young Park. The Indian pair will next face Indonesia’s second seeded pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan.
On Tuesday, World Championships bronze medalist Lakshya Sen and fast-rising player Malvika Bansod also made it to the second round with three-game wins.
