World Championship bronze medalist Lakshya Sen has advanced to the semi-finals of the All England Championship men’s singles after his rival Lu Guang Xu of China gave him a walkover.
The 20-year-old from Almora had won the first Super 500 India Open title in January. He then finished runner-up at the German Open last week. He will now face the winner of the match between sixth seed Li Ji Jia of Malaysia and second seed Kento Momota of Japan.
India’s fifth-seeded Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat Indonesia’s Marcus Fernaldi Guidon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamujo in the quarterfinals with a 22. 24, lost by 17.21.
Sen reached the quarter-finals on Thursday after beating world number three and two-time World Championship medalist Anders Antonsen of Denmark.
The 20-year-old from Almora, who won the India Open title in January this year and last week’s German Open runner-up, registered a 21-16, 21-18 victory over third seed Antonsen. Antonsen is a two-time medalist at the World Championships.
