Shane Warne, Australia’s legendary cricketer and one of the world’s greatest spinners, said goodbye to the world on Friday at the age of 52. The entire cricketing world mourned his death. Meanwhile, veteran Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also paid tribute to him. But on a news channel, he refused to accept Warne as the greatest player.
After this statement of Sunil Gavaskar, Australian media had condemned his statement regarding the timing. The veteran Indian had to face criticism on social media too. Regarding which Little Master released a video on Instagram on Monday night and gave his clarification.
In the video, Sunil Gavaskar said, ‘Last week has been very sad for the cricket world. Within 24 hours we lost two of the world’s greatest cricketers. First Rodney Marsh and then Shane Warne. After this the anchor on the TV channel asked me if Shane Warne was the greatest player? To which I answered honestly.
He further said, ‘Such a question should not have been asked nor would it have been answered. Because that time was of no comparison. Shane Warne was a legendary cricketer who took cricket forward and Rodney Marsh was one of the best wicketkeepers of his time. I pray to God that both their souls rest in peace.
Sunil Gavaskar had asked ‘India Today’ on the question of Shane Warne being the greatest player, ‘I will not say that. In my view, the Indian spinner and Muttiah Muralitharan are better than him. This is because Shane Warne’s record against India has been average. In India, he took five wickets only once in Nagpur. However, he later praised Warne’s spin bowling.
Significantly, Shane Warne died on 4 March 2022 in Thailand. He was only 52 years old and according to the media reports that have surfaced so far, his death is being considered as a natural death. He had gone for a holiday with his friends at a villa in Thailand. He was found unconscious in his room and the initial reason for his death was said to be a heart attack.
